Makueni Governor Mutula Kilonzo Jr. has called for unity among all Kamba leaders, urging them to rally behind Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka ahead of the 2027 General Elections.

Mutula reiterated the need to unite the region to push for development reforms.

Mutula, who is also the National Vice-Chairperson of the Wiper Party, stated that the region’s political ‘fathers,’ such as his late father Mutula Kilonzo Senior and Mulu Mutisya, had a vision of political and economic unity for the region, but said those dreams were buried with them.

"Let’s avoid being vicious towards our able leader. We must ensure that we embrace each other as Ukambani residents. We are still divided and underdeveloped as a region. We must sit down and look into creating a conducive environment for investments and job creation for our people," Mutula said.

The governor promised to rally all politicians to one table to promote the area's economic development.

"We have our able Lower Eastern South Eastern Kenya Economic Bloc (SEKEB), which brings together the three Ukambani governors, myself included. Others are Wavinya Ndeti of Machakos and Julius Malombe of Kitui County. The bloc is key in stabilizing the unity of the region," Mutula added.

He mentioned that SEKEB has strategies drawn to improve the quality of life for residents as well as enhance unity among all.

Mutula noted that a common agenda, as opposed to self-interest, would act as the glue for the region, blaming insurmountable grudges and personal interests for past divisions.

"All we need is discipline in Ukambani to make Kalonzo appealing to the rest of the country. We can't have some of us sitting to plan how to spoil the way for others," Mutula said.

According to Mutula, meaningful development, especially from the national government, would only be realized if all leaders met at one table to lobby.

He spoke on Wednesday when he unveiled a new Early Childhood Development Education (ECDE) center at Wambuli Primary School as part of his ongoing development tour of Tulimani Ward.

The initiative is part of a broader program under the Department of Education and aims to provide quality learning facilities for pre-primary children across the county.

Apart from this educational advancement, Governor Mutula and his team distributed 300 blankets to elderly residents in the ward to cushion them against weather-related ailments during the rainy and cold season.

Moreover, the governor's tour also featured a legal land clinic, where residents were able to access free legal services.

Governor Mutula was joined by Deputy Governor Lucy Mulili, Tulimani Ward MCA Kyalo Mumo, and other local leaders during the event.
