The Ministry of Interior, following the advice of the Kenya Meteorological Department, has listed 33 counties set to receive heavy to very heavy rainfall across the country this Saturday.

The heavy rainfall will be accompanied by thunderstorms.

Kenya's capital Nairobi is listed among those that will have heavy to very heavy rainfall.

In the Central region Nyeri, Murang'a, Kirinyaga, Kiambu, and Nyandarua will be affected.

In Rift Valley, Nandi, Bomet, Nakuru, Elgeyo Marakwet, West Pokot, Baringo, Samburu, Turkana, Uasin Gishu, Laikipia and  Narok are included in the list.

Kakamega, Vihiga, Busia, Bungoma and Trans Nzoia counties in the Western part of Kenya will also experience heavy to very heavy rainfall.

In the Lake Victoria Basin region Kisumu, Kisii, Nyamira, Migori, Siaya and Homa Bay will be affected.

Machakos, Embu, Tharaka Nithi, Meru and Marsabit, counties in the Eastern region, will also experience heavy to heavy rainfall.

The ministry said flooding is expected in low-lying areas, riparian areas and urban areas while landslides/mudslides may occur in areas with steep slopes, escarpments and ravines.

Most parts of the North Eastern specifically Isiolo, Garissa and  Wajir, Mandera counties and South Eastern(Kitui, Makueni, Taita, Taveta, Tana River) regions are forecasted to be generally dry.

"However the continuous heavy rains in the Central region and the overflow of the Seven Forks Dams poses potential flooding in the Tana Delta impacting Garissa, Tana River, and Lamu Counties," the ministry said.

Despite sunny intervals in the Coast region, Tropical Cyclone Hidaya is forecasted to bring strong winds and large ocean waves mostly in Kwale and Kilifi, with heavy rainfalls starting Sunday, May 5.
