A man has died in a suspected electrocution incident in Athi River, Machakos county.

Police said the deceased's body was found lying in a pool of water on the verandah of unoccupied house at Kwa Mang'eli village within Athi River Township on Saturday.

The incident was reported to the Athi River police station as a suspected electrocution incident report.

"It was reported by an administrator that there was the unidentified body of one male adult lying in a pool of water on the verandah of an unoccupied house. Also hanging were electric wires," a police source told the Star on Saturday.

Police officers from the station together with Kenya Power personnel responded to the scene, switched off the electricity and processed it.

The deceased, according to a police source, was positively identified by a close relative.

"A friend of the deceased reported that he was on a drinking spree with him in the Kosovo area on May 5, 2024, until 4pm when the deceased proceeded to Kwa Mang'eli village," the police source said.

The body was removed to Shalom Community Hospital's mortuary awaiting an autopsy.

Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations attached to Athi River police station have launched investigations into the incident.
