Arsenal Football Club supporters from across Kenya gathered early this morning at Kang’o ka Jaramogi in Bondo, Siaya County, to pay tribute to the late Raila Odinga, who passed away on October 15, 2025.

The homage was held at the veteran politician’s ancestral home at Opoda Farm, where the memorial ceremony took place.

Odinga was a passionate supporter of the English club Arsenal FC, and his love for the Gunners was acknowledged both locally and internationally.

In a tribute, the fan channel Arsenal Fan TV described him as “a true Arsenal supporter… his legacy lives on among the Arsenal family and across Kenya.”

The tribute at Kang’o ka Jaramogi comes amid wider funeral arrangements and collective mourning in the Odinga family’s stronghold.

A delegation of Kikuyu elders led by MP Ndia George Kariuki visited Odinga’s gravesite earlier in the week in a gesture of national unity across ethnic lines.

The delegation of Kikuyu Council of Elders led by Ndia MP George Kariuki on Wednesday visited the family of former Prime Minister Raila Odinga at their Opoda home in Bondo, Siaya County, in a symbolic gesture of peace, respect, and national unity.

The elders were warmly received by Dr Ida Odinga and Raila Junior, who welcomed them to the family compound.

MP Kariuki said the visit was both a mark of respect and a reaffirmation of the enduring bonds between Kenya’s diverse communities.

Kariuki said Kenya had lost a statesman who repeatedly chose peace and national cohesion over personal or political gain.

“We are here to mourn a great leader. Raila Odinga had many opportunities to let this country disintegrate, but he never misused those opportunities,” Kariuki said.

“Every time he faced a critical juncture, he chose unity and used those moments to bring Kenyans together.”

Other notable visits to the Opoda Farm compound include media tycoon Dr S.K. Macharia, who arrived on October 23 and was received by Siaya Governor James Orengo and Homa Bay Governor Gladys Wanga.

Odinga’s passing followed an illustrious political career, during which he campaigned extensively for democratic reforms in Kenya and built a broad popular following. His football fandom offered one of the many personal dimensions of his public persona.

As mourners continue to arrive at Opoda Farm and Kang’o ka Jaramogi, the gathering by Arsenal fans today underscores the varied and far-reaching influences of Odinga’s life and legacy.
