President William Ruto will on Tuesday evening depart Nairobi for Washington, D.C. to attend the official signing of the DRC–Rwanda Peace Agreement, described as the most significant breakthrough in resolving decades of conflict in the Eastern Democratic Republic of Congo.
According to a statement from State House Spokesperson Hussein Mohamed, the President is travelling at the invitation of U.S. President Donald J. Trump and will join Rwanda’s President Paul Kagame and DRC President Félix Tshisekedi at the landmark ceremony.
The Washington signing builds on progress made under the Nairobi and Luanda Peace Processes and the joint EAC–SADC initiative.
It is expected to bring together all key actors and unlock critical pathways for disarmament, demobilisation, humanitarian access, and long-term stability in Eastern DRC.
Beyond the peace deal, President Ruto will hold a series of high-level engagements aimed at strengthening Kenya–U.S. cooperation in trade, investment, health, and security.
He is also expected to witness the signing of the Kenya–U.S. Health Cooperation Framework, which transitions the long-standing 25-year health partnership into a sustainable, government-led model supporting Universal Health Coverage and advancing a self-reliant health system by 2030.
Hussein said the President will use the visit to outline Kenya’s new economic transformation agenda centred on human capital development, infrastructure expansion, agro-industrial growth, increased irrigation, and expanded dam construction.
He will also seek Public Private Partnership investments in priority sectors and pitch for enhanced energy security initiatives.
According to the statement, these engagements are part of Kenya’s broader ambition to move towards a first-world economy while aligning long-term development goals with global partners.
The visit marks one of President Ruto’s most significant diplomatic
engagements this year, underscoring Kenya’s central role in regional peace
efforts and its strategic partnership with the United States.
