A suspected notorious criminal linked to a series of violent crimes in Nairobi was arrested on Tuesday following a dramatic police chase from Majengo to Eastleigh.

In a statement, the National Police Service (NPS) said the suspect was arrested after officers on routine patrol spotted him along Lamu Road in Majengo.

Police said the suspect fled on foot upon noticing the officers, prompting a chase through the densely populated neighbourhoods towards the California area.

The pursuit ended at the Madina Mall Roundabout in Eastleigh, where officers cornered and arrested him.

A search conducted during the arrest led to the recovery of a homemade firearm and a knife.

According to police, preliminary investigations show the suspect is well known within Shauri Moyo and is believed to have been involved in a string of violent crimes in the area.

Authorities linked him to previous incidents involving stabbings and phone snatching targeting members of the public.

Police described the arrest as a major breakthrough in efforts to curb criminal activities and dismantle gangs operating within Nairobi estates.

The suspect remains in police custody pending arraignment in court after completion of investigations.

The NPS reiterated its commitment to enhancing security through routine patrols and intelligence-led operations, while urging members of the public to continue sharing information on criminal activities.

Members of the public can report crime through emergency numbers 999 and 911, the toll-free #FichuaKwaDCI hotline 0800 722 203, or the DCI WhatsApp number 0709 570 000.
