Githunguri MP Gathoni Wamuchomba has claimed that her removal as chairperson of the Constitutional Oversight Committee (CIOC) was politically motivated.
The vocal MP allied to former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua cited her firm stance against controversial finance bills as the reason for the ouster.
Speaking after her exit, the legislator stated that she had anticipated the move, as her refusal to endorse certain financial bills had made some colleagues uneasy.
"I have no regrets; I served to the best of my ability. I knew they were uncomfortable with my stand against oppressive and scandalous finance bills," she said.
She further alleged that her oversight of the National Land Commission (NLC) played a role in her removal.
According to her, she intervened to prevent the illegal acquisition of 400 acres of land in Kiambu, a move that allegedly put her at odds with influential individuals.
Despite her removal, she remains resolute, vowing to hold those responsible accountable.
"They may be powerful today, but we will come for their loot. It’s only a matter of time," she said.
She also criticized the current political environment, arguing that true and principled leaders struggle to find space to serve under the current administration.
However, she affirmed her commitment to fighting for transparency and accountability in governance.
"I am the woman for the job," she declared, signalling her determination to continue advocating for integrity in public office.
The MP is one of the fiercest critics of the government and is aligned with Gachagua’s camp following his removal from office last year.
Wamuchomba is one among several Gachagua allies ousted from the leadership of parliamentary committees following President William Ruto’s cooperation with ODM boss Raila Odinga.
While Gachagua’s allies have cried foul citing political witch-hunt, the government has insisted that the changes are aimed at reengineering leadership to ensure efficiency.
The position was previously held by Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro.
