Kenya Federation (FKF) President Hussein Mohammed will lead the federation’s
leadership to a meeting today with the National Assembly’s Departmental
Committee on Sports and Culture.
The meeting comes just four months after Hussein took charge of the federation after
flooring Doris Petra and seven other candidates in the general elections held
on December 7, 2024.
The
Federation was invited by the Committee to provide clarity on key matters
relating to football governance in the country.
Top of the agenda for the meeting includes; a briefing on the outcomes of the recent FKF elections at both national and branch levels, including the introduction of the federation’s new leadership.
A report on the current state of football in
Kenya, from grassroots to the professional levels, as well as the federation’s
plans for the sport’s future growth and development.
Also on the rota will be strategies aimed at enhancing the standards of youth and women’s football nationwide.
The meeting scheduled to begin at 12:00 pm, will also capture
a report on the women's football and development, from grassroots to the
national level.
Hussein, who is deputized by former Kenyan international McDonald Mariga, took over the local federation’s reigns with Kenyan football at its busiest time ever.
Apart from
Harambee stars, starlets and the junior sides playing in different qualifiers, the
nation will host the 2025 African Nations Championship (CHAN) and the AFCON 2027
alongside Uganda and Tanzania under the “Pamoja umbrella”.
Some of Hussein Mohammed’s highlights since taking office include appointing Benny Mc Carthy as the Harambee stars head coach on a two year deal, seeing emerging Stars qualify for their maiden U-20 AFCON, while Harambee starlets and Junior starlets are on the brink of qualifying for the Women African nations cup and the FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup.
