Makini Schools, part of the South Africa-based ADvTECH Group, has expanded its presence in Kenya with the acquisition of Regis Runda Academy, a private institution located in Nairobi’s rapidly Ridgeways area.
The school, which has a capacity for 2,000 learners, will be rebranded as Makini School Runda, with ADvTECH set to assume full operations on August 20, 2025.
The acquisition marks a significant growth milestone for the Makini brand in Kenya’s private education sector.
“We are pleased to welcome the Regis staff, students, and parents to Makini Schools. We plan to build on the strong foundations the founders of Regis have laid, and our intention is to take the school to the next phase of its development,” said Regional Managing Director at Makini Schools, Horace Mpanza.
As part of the integration, ADvTECH has pledged major investments in AI-powered digital learning tools and upgrades to sporting facilities at the Runda campus, aiming to enhance student experience and improve academic performance.
ADvTECH Group CEO, Geoff Whyte, said the acquisition strengthens Makini’s value proposition in one of Nairobi’s fastest-growing regions.
“We are delighted to increase our Makini Schools footprint in Kenya and to bring the brand’s compelling proposition to parents and students in this dynamic area,” Whyte said.
The expansion follows ADvTECH’s broader pan-African growth strategy. In November 2024, the group acquired Flipper International School in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, and in June 2025, it launched Rosebank International University College in Accra, Ghana.
These developments underscore the group’s commitment to delivering premium private education across the continent, leveraging technology and world-class facilities to attract and retain students in competitive markets.
ADvTECH’s Schools Division comprises ten brands with 119 schools across the continent, including Gaborone International School in Botswana, The Makini Group of Schools and Crawford International School in Kenya and Flipper International School in Ethiopia.
