Paris-based communications group Havas has announced the appointment of Alberto Canteli as Executive Chairman for Africa, effective September 1.
The move comes as the company intensifies its focus on Africa as a strategic growth region.
Canteli will take on the new role alongside his current responsibilities as Chairman and CEO of Havas Nordics, Benelux, Central and Eastern Europe, and the Middle East.
His appointment follows the recent nomination of Provit Chemmani as CEO Africa, based in Johannesburg, who will report directly to him.
Havas said the leadership restructuring is aimed at driving transformation and positioning Africa as a central pillar of the group’s global expansion strategy.
The company described Canteli as an executive with a proven record of steering operations across complex and diverse markets.
He has overseen the establishment of Centers of Excellence in different parts of the world, experience Havas expects will help accelerate its impact on the African continent.
“This strategic appointment underscores Havas’ ambition to accelerate growth across the African continent, a region undergoing rapid transformation and rich with potential,” the company said in its announcement.
Yannick Bolloré, Chairman and CEO of Havas, emphasized the importance of Africa in the group’s long-term vision.
“Africa is not just a market of the future. It is also continent of boundless creativity and opportunity,” he said.
“At Havas, our expansion across the continent reflects our deep belief in the region’s potential and our commitment to building lasting partnerships that drive sustainable growth.”
Canteli echoed that message, highlighting Africa’s dynamism and entrepreneurial spirit.
“I am extremely excited to take the lead of our business in Africa,” he said.
“The continent’s energy, potential, and entrepreneurial spirit are unmatched. Our mission is to grow together by empowering local voices, investing in local talent, and building enduring partnerships that shape a bold and prosperous tomorrow for our clients, our people, and our shareholders, but also for society in general.”
The appointment marks the latest step in Havas’ efforts to strengthen its footprint across Africa. With the combined leadership of Canteli and Chemmani, the company said it aims to bring “renewed energy” to its operations and align the region more closely with its global ambitions.
Canteli will continue to oversee the Nordics, Benelux, Central and Eastern Europe, and the Middle East.
Havas said this dual responsibility will ensure continuity and alignment across key markets while allowing Africa to become a driver of growth.
Havas, founded in Paris in 1835, is one of the world’s largest global communications groups.
The company employs nearly 23,000 people in more than 100 markets. Its operations are structured around the “Converged.AI” model, which integrates data, technology, and human creativity to deliver marketing solutions tailored to client needs.
The group said its commitment goes beyond business growth, stressing its focus on inclusivity, equity, and employee well-being as part of its broader corporate culture.
