Nominated MCA Annastacia Ndilo

A nominated MCA from Machakos has withdrawn her support for the impeachment of County Assembly Speaker Anne Kiusya, as she strives to mend ties with the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party and secure her position.

Annastacia Ndilo, who was nominated to the Assembly by the UDA party in 2022, confirmed to The Star that she had changed her stance and was working to restore trust with the party leadership to avoid having her nomination revoked.

The decision came after a group of UDA members from Machakos accused Ndilo of disloyalty to the party’s leadership and its ideals, claiming she violated its constitution.

In a petition dated June 16, 2025, they called for the party to expel Ndilo and have her nomination cancelled.

Ndilo explained that she had initially backed the impeachment motion because it came soon after Speaker Kiusya left the Wiper party and joined the government side.

“This is about the impeachment of the Speaker. The party had not given us directions at the time. The Speaker had just joined the government from Wiper three weeks ago. So, I am withdrawing my signature from the motion,” she told The Star by phone.

“I have also submitted a formal letter withdrawing my support for the impeachment."

The petition lodged by UDA members accused Ndilo of acting against the party’s interests, citing “consistent acts of misconduct, disloyalty, and contravention of the party’s constitution and ”ethos”—including signing the impeachment motion.

The letter stated that the action was politically motivated and taken “without the consultative framework expected of party‑aligned MCAs.”

In her defence, Ndilo insisted she remained loyal to the party and its leadership, dismissing the other accusations as “fabricated lies” meant to malign her.

She emphasised her commitment to the party and cited her active role in supporting the Kenya Kwanza administration’s Youth and Women Empowerment Programme, led by Deputy President Kithure Kindiki, including making personal contributions to its activities.

With tensions still high, it remains to be seen how the party will respond to Ndilo’s efforts to distance herself from the impeachment campaign and secure her place within the UDA ranks.
