In Summary

  • In the first case, a 49-year-old security guard identified as Festus King’ola was discovered dead on Thursday morning while on duty at a farm in Kasuitu village.
  • Athi River Subcounty Criminal Investigations Officer Michael Boiyo said the incident was reported by a village elder at around 9:30 am.

Police in Athi River are investigating three separate incidents in which men were found dead within the subcounty over the past week.

In the first case, a 49-year-old security guard identified as Festus King’ola was discovered dead at work on Thursday morning at a farm in Kasuitu village.

Athi River Subcounty Criminal Investigations Officer Michael Boiyo said the incident was reported by a village elder at around 9:30 am.

“When our officers responded to the scene, they were told that the deceased had on September 1 visited a private hospital within Athi River Township as an outpatient. He was diagnosed with diabetes, treated, and discharged,” Boiyo said.

Crime scene officers processed and documented the scene before transferring the body to Machakos Level 5 Hospital mortuary for a post-mortem examination.

The death came just a day after another security guard, 41-year-old Isiah Muroria, was found dead at a private firm within the Export Processing Zone in Athi River.

Boiyo said Muroria had sought treatment at Kitengela Level 4 Hospital on Tuesday before returning to the premises where he lived with a colleague.

“The deceased asked for drinking water on Tuesday night before he went to bed but never woke up,” he said.

Police said they recovered medical notes and drugs from the scene. The body was moved to Shalom Community Hospital mortuary in Athi River, pending autopsy.

In a separate case on August 31, a police officer, Constable Francis Mutua, was found dead in his house in Mitatini village, Athi River Subcounty. Mutua was attached to the KBC Police Station in Matungulu Subcounty.

Authorities reported that he died at home in circumstances under investigation. His body was taken to a mortuary after officers documented the scene.

Police say post-mortems will be conducted to establish the exact causes of death in the three cases.
