Leaders from across Northern Kenya and beyond led by Eldas MP Adan Keynan Wehliye on Friday urged the Somali, Kona tribe, Arab , pastrolists, minorities and all muslim communities to back President William Ruto’s re-election.

The leaders praised the Kenya Kwanza administration for what they described as unprecedented development in the region.

Speaking during the Nikah ceremony of Mahmoud Mohamed and Yuosra Abdlwalli Shariff, Keynan said the region had a responsibility to safeguard ongoing government projects by uniting behind President Ruto as he seeks a second term.

He argued that continuity in leadership would secure long-term gains for communities that have historically struggled with marginalisation, insecurity, and underdevelopment.

Keynan highlighted what he described as significant improvements under the current administration, citing expanded infrastructure, improved security operations, and greater investment in health and education across Northern Kenya.

He noted that these developments were already transforming livelihoods, especially in remote counties that had previously been underserved.

“This is one of the best governments we have had,” Keynan said, urging Somali leaders and residents to maintain unity and political focus.

He insisted that the region’s progress depended on a coordinated approach and unwavering support for the leadership currently steering major state-backed projects.

The event attracted a high-profile delegation of political leaders, underscoring its importance within the region’s evolving political landscape.

Among those present were Saku MP Dido Ali Raso, Moyale MP Dr. Guyo Waqo, former Cabinet Minister and Embu Senator Njeru Ndwiga, and Ndugu Githinji, Chairman Emeritus.

The Deputy Speaker of the Garissa County Assembly was also in attendance, alongside several other regional leaders and dignitaries who came to witness the ceremony and express their goodwill to the families.

While the leaders congratulated the newly married couple, they also used the platform to call for unity within pastoralist and Muslim communities, emphasising the importance of strong family institutions and cultural cohesion.

Many speakers framed the wedding gathering as not only a celebration of marriage but also an opportunity to reflect on the region’s development priorities and political future.

Their remarks come at a time when early political manoeuvres are beginning to take shape ahead of the next General Election.

Communities across Northern Kenya are reassessing alliances, balancing development expectations, and determining which political partnerships best align with their socio-economic interests.

With the Kenya Kwanza administration positioning itself for re-election, calls such as those made by Keynan signal a growing effort to consolidate support within key blocs long considered influential in national politics.
