Religious leaders should be truthful to provide interventions on the problems facing the country, Homa Bay bishops and pastors’ unity patron Aloo Nyakoko has said.

Nyakoko said the current unstable political situation that the country is facing can only be solved by religious leaders who stand for the truth and do not to take sides.

He said there is a need for Kenyan clerics to speak with one voice to provide solutions to problems that are bedeviling the country.

“Prayers for peace and unity among Kenyan religious leaders will only be heard by God if they stand by the truth. I am sure we can address issues the country is facing if religious leaders put aside their vested interest,” Nyakoko said.

Speaking to journalists on the sidelines of a prayer crusade organised by his Reformed Gospel Ministries church in Homa Bay town, Nyakoko called on political leaders to put peace and unity ahead of their personal ambitions.

The country has witnessed deadly protests as youth call for better leadership.

The opposition politicians on the other hand have been calling on the government to listen and address the grievances pushed by the youths.

Accompanied by Naphtali Milanya of Agape Christian Church International, Nyakoko said the disunity among Kenyan religious leaders and the politicians is has seen the youth lose trust and take steps that a morally wrong.

Kenyan religious leaders have equally been accused of taking sides in ongoing squabbles among leaders in the country.

“We have seen some Gen Zs write their eulogy before they turn up for street demonstrations.  We should teach our young sons and daughters good values because what they do during demos are not biblical and is against our African traditions,” he said.

Political leaders were told to comply with the constitution to avoid causing division among Kenyans along tribal lines.

“Kenyans should embrace dialogue because that is the way to bring peace. We urge politicians to stop utterances that cause disunity,” the cleric said.

Milanya said personal interest and greed is causing division and chaos among Kenyan leaders.

He urged religious leaders to be guided by the holy books saying this will enhance their capacity to become mediators.

The clergy said politicians come and go but Kenya remains for generations.

Milanya said the churches through their leaders, have meddled in politics and abandoned the true doctrines of christianity.

“Let’s not perish after we have known the truth. A spiritual leader who was truly called by God shouldn’t politically get affiliated,” Milanya said.
