Former President Uhuru Kenyatta has asked Kenyans to continue praying for the country and its leaders.
Uhuru stated that it was important for Kenyans to pray for those in leadership positions.
The former President spoke on Sunday when he attended a Thanksgiving mass at St. Joseph’s Cathedral in Meru County.
The mass was held to celebrate the recent installation of Bishop Jackson Murugara as the Coadjutor Bishop of Meru.
"I don't want to repeat what has been said. Anyone who has ears has heard," Uhuru said.
"Let us continue praying that our leaders will open their ears and hearts and listen to the cries of the people they lead."
The former president also spoke about his retirement stating that retirement was a good thing especially when one retires when they are strong.
In congratulating the Bishop, Uhuru said; "We wish you the best, may you continue with the great work of spreading the gospel, as you continue healing souls, may you also help in giving this country direction."
"We must save souls but if you have no lives, you will have lost those souls. You as the church have a responsibility to ensure that our nation stays on the right path."
"People think this work is easy but leadership and shepherding people is not an easy job."
The former president was accompanied by former Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Peter Munya, former Meru Woman Representative Florence Kajuju, and former Director of Criminal Investigations (DCI) George Kinoti.
The event brought together congregants to honor Bishop Murugara’s new role, following his appointment by the Vatican.
Before this position, Bishop Murugara served as the rector of the Consolata Shrine in Westlands, Nairobi.
