Former Kiambu Governor Ferdinand Waititu is set to remain in prison for at least another one month as the High Court considers his second application for bond.

Waititu was, in February, sentenced to serve 12 years in prison or pay a fine of Sh53 million following a conviction by a magistrate court in a corruption case.

His application for bond was dismissed by Justice Lucy Njuguna of the High Court's Anti-Corruption and Economic Crimes division on March 3.

However, Waititu has since filed a fresh application before the same court, seeking to be released on bond pending the hearing of his appeal.

His lawyers, led by Kibe Mungai, have since sought leave to amend the application.

However, that bid has been opposed by the Director of Public Prosecutions.

Justice Njuguna on Wednesday set April 23, 2025, for ruling on whether Waititu will be allowed to amend his application.

Thereafter, the court will issue directions on how the matter will proceed. If allowed, Waititu will then be given a chance to argue his fresh application for bond pending the determination of his appeal.
