Online activist James Musa Awandu alias Jem Guru or  Jumuiyan died in a suspected suicide mission in his house in Ngong, Kajiado County.

Police said he left a suicide note in his house before he died.

Jumuiyan, 31, was found unresponsive in his house in Ngong, Kajiado County, on March 26, after apparently swallowing a poison in the 10 pm incident.

Earlier, he called the caretaker of his apartment, saying he needed help.

His body was moved to a mortuary where an autopsy was planned on Friday.

Police visited the house where Jumuiyan stayed alone and found containers believed to have contained poison that he had swallowed.

The team also found a suicide note on the table.

The investigation team is analyzing the note to confirm if he authored it.

It will be subjected to a document examiner, police said.

Police declined to disclose the contents of the suicide note even as the probe goes on.

Some of his friends visited a mortuary where the body was lying on Thursday and confirmed the same.

His family in Kibaoni, Kilifi County were shocked by the news of his demise.

They have asked for financial help to cover funeral expenses.

The online community joined in mourning a man they knew as a pillar in activism against poor governance.

They referred to him as captain due to his ways of handling online activism.

Known for his sharp insights, humor, and activism against poor governance, Awandu always charmed his followers, especially on X, without fear.

Meanwhile, four cases of suicide were reported to police on Thursday in separate incidents.

The first one was reported in Huruma in the CDF area where one Zacharia Kariuki Muiru, 47 died by suicide.

He is said to have hanged himself using a belt that was tied around the door grill of his house.

Information obtained from family members is that the deceased had domestic wrangles with his wife on Thursday evening, prompting his wife to seek refuge at her sister's place in Kariobangi South.

The body, which had no visible injuries, was moved to the mortuary pending autopsy.

In Mwea West, Kirinyaga County, one Michael Mbogo Kiura, 41, died by suicide by hanging himself using a manila rope tied around his neck from one of the roof rafters inside his house.

No suicide note was recovered.

In Kipkaren, Nandi County, one Japheth Kimutai, 24, died by suicide by hanging himself using a waist belt tied around his neck from one of the roof rafters inside his house.

In Nyamaiya, Nyamira County, one Dennis Sunda, 31, died by suicide by hanging himself using a sisal rope tied around his neck from one of the roof rafters inside his room.

The bodies were moved to mortuaries pending autopsy and other investigations, police said.

Cases of suicide have been on the rise amid calls for action to stop the trend.
