Bhang recovered from two suspects arrested in Nairobi on April 2025

Police in Nairobi have arrested two men with 40 kilogrammes of bhang in an operation within Karen area.

Also recovered from the suspects were 203 rolls of bhang, 100 packets of razzlers, Sh1,400 in cash and one rolling flag.

Police impounded a motorcycle they believe the suspects have been using to carry out the illegal business.

A police report said the two suspects were booked at Industrial Area Police Station awaiting arraignment in court.

Police indicated that the operation to nab more suspects in the narcotics business in Nairobi continues.

The arrest comes a week after the National Authority for the Campaign Against Alcohol and Drug Abuse (NACADA) arrested two suspected bhang traffickers in Machakos County.

The operation, spearheaded by Nacada enforcement officers, followed a credible tip-off from the public.

During the raid, officers recovered a stash of illicit drugs, including 20 brooms and 87 sticks of bhang, along with drug paraphernalia such as Rizla rolling papers, scissors and cash believed to be proceeds of crime.

The suspects were arraigned in court to face charges of trafficking in narcotic drugs.

Nacada CEO Anthony Omerikwa lauded the efforts of the enforcement team and community members who provided the critical intelligence.

“This arrest is a strong message to drug traffickers and peddlers that their days are numbered,” he said.

“We are not relenting in our mission to dismantle drug networks across the country. No matter how remote the location, if you traffic drugs, we will find you.”

He urged the public to continue supporting Nacada’s initiatives by sharing information anonymously through its hotline 1192.

Omerikwa also emphasised that community collaboration remains a powerful tool in the national fight against drugs.

Three days earlier, Nacada seized contraband worth over Sh2.9 million in Bondo, Siaya County.

This was part of Nacada’s major crackdown on drug trafficking and the illicit liquor trade across the country.

Omerikwa said the operation was launched following a tip-off, leading to a raid on a notorious drug dealer’s hideout in Nyamonye Market.
