A primary school in Sabatia, Vihiga county has been closed indefinitely after human body parts were found in the institution’s toilet.

Sabatia Subcounty Police Commander Peter Mbua said Evojo Primary School had to be closed after the shocking incident.

Deputy head teacher, Oscar Changilwa, noted that both pupils and teachers were deeply traumatised by the incident.

“The kids are very traumatised because they had just buried their head teacher. The teachers are also down because of it,” he explained.

Changilwa said it was regrettable that that such an incident occurred at the school.

“We had resumed school after burying our head teacher and at 7am, pupils were already in classes ready for remedial lessons. One of the pupils went to the toilet and came with a report that he had seen a head of a person,” he said.

Changilwa said he went to the toilet with other teachers and confirmed it was true.

“We called relevant authorities including the Ministry of Education, the Teachers Service Commission and the Directorate of Criminal Investigations to inform them about what we had seen,” he added.

Changilwa noted that all toilets in the school had to be brought down during search for other possible bodies.

“We condemn these acts, which should not have been done anywhere near a school,” he stated.

The incident comes barely four months after a body belonging to 32-year-old woman, Lucy Wamaitha, who went missing in January this year was discovered.

The body parts were found on January 22 in a bag with the head missing.

She was last seen having lunch with a man in Embu town before her phone was switched off later that afternoon.

Her body was found mutilated and partially burned when it was retrieved from River Sagana, deepening suspicions of foul play.

The motive for the apparent murder was not immediately established.

Wamaitha, who worked for a Kiambu-based NGO, had travelled to Meru county with her boss and workmate on January 16 never to be seen again.
