County commissioner regretted many still prefer white collar jobs
PS Njogu said the government is not involved in any recruitment drive for jobs in the country
In Summary
The government has warned Kenyans against fake job opportunities in South Korea.
In a statement issued Thursday, May 8, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that it is not involved in any recruitment drive for jobs in South Korea.
“We strongly advise all Kenyans to avoid engaging with any agencies or individuals offering jobs in South Korea without paper verification,’’ Diaspora Affairs Principal Secretary Roseline Njogu said.
According to Njogu, the government conducted investigations in collaboration with the Kenya Embassy in Seoul and South Korean authorities, which established that the job opportunities were not genuine.
"In line with our mandate to protect Kenyans abroad, the State Department, together with the Kenya Embassy in Seoul and South Korean authorities, has thoroughly investigated the job offers and confirmed they are not genuine," she said.
The alleged fake job advertisements specifically mentioned opportunities in “Rural Plus Centres” located in Haenam, Wando, Jindo, Yeongam, and Jangheung counties in South Korea’s Jeollanam-do province.
The statement by the PS follows numerous incidents of Kenyans being scammed over fraudulent jobs in Asian countries.
The companies named in that advertisement have, however, denied any involvement in recruiting Kenyan workers and clarified that they have no links to any recruitment agencies operating in Kenya.
