Former First Lady Margaret Kenyatta on Thursday presided over the Leadership Programme for County Social Transformation: Peer-to-Peer Learning and Collaboration Showcase meeting at the Kenya School of Government (KSG) in Kabete, Nairobi.
Margaret praised county first ladies for their leadership, unity, and commitment to transforming lives across their counties.
The event was attended by several county first ladies, partners, and key stakeholders.
It showcased innovative initiatives championed by county first ladies to improve the health and well-being of communities.
The meeting follows previous successful leadership training programs held in April and November 2024 in Mombasa and Nairobi, respectively.
The Leadership Program for County Social Transformation is one of the programmes developed through a partnership between KSG, Beyond Zero, and the Margaret Kenyatta Institute for Gender and Social Development.
In her remarks, Margaret acknowledged the county first ladies’ collaborative spirit and lauded the impact of their grassroots interventions.
"To all the exceptional ladies here—your passion, friendship, and dedication, whether through your work in the counties, your years of partnership with Beyond Zero, or during the Leadership Program for County Social Transformation, have been inspiring," she said.
"I extend my heartfelt congratulations to each and every one of you for the transformative work you are doing to uplift the lives of women, children, and communities at large. We are particularly proud of the incredible strides made by the County First Ladies Association," she added.
She also expressed appreciation to all the partners for their generosity, expertise, and unwavering support, which have been the cornerstone of the collective journey.
“The progress we celebrate today is evidence of the power of strategic partnerships built on shared values and trust," she noted.
The showcase featured interactive sessions, including presentations by the county first ladies: Agnes Ochilo (Migori County) highlighted interventions in managing sickle cell anemia; Anita Mutula (Makueni County) shared efforts in cancer screening and community health promotion while Betty Murungi (Siaya County) presented on Early Childhood Development initiatives.
Edna Chelangat Lenku (Kajiado County) spoke about her achievements in the eco-friendly manyatta housing initiative, and Alamitu Jattani (Marsabit County) outlined ongoing campaigns against female genital mutilation and teen pregnancies.
