Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has said he holds no grudge against Members of Parliament who voted to impeach him.
Speaking during an interview on Egesa FM, Gachagua claimed that the legislators were coerced into impeaching him.
“The MPs did not have a problem with me — they were paid to remove me,” Gachagua said.
Gachagua claimed his impeachment was due to his refusal to engage in what he termed as controversial matters, including the alleged killings of Gen-Z protestors, the Social Health Authority (SHA) controversy, and issues related to the Adani Group.
According to Gachagua, his resistance to these matters triggered his ouster.
Gachagua further urged residents of Kisii and all Kenyans to unite behind leaders committed to building a better government.
"You should all come together, where you can demand your rights and negotiate for what you want,” Gachagua urged.
The former deputy president expressed readiness to support any candidate for the 2027 presidential race should he himself fail in the bid.
He called for a collaborative effort in steering the nation forward, saying leadership should not be concentrated in the presidency alone.
Gachagua asserted that former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i is qualified to lead Kenya.
Gachagua said the former CS has a solid service and delivery track record, having held key positions in the ministries of Interior, Education, and ICT during retired President Uhuru Kenyatta’s administration.
He emphasised that Matiang’i has the credentials to lead the nation.
However, he challenged the Gusii community to rally behind the former CS to strengthen his chances of securing the opposition alliance’s presidential ticket and garnering national support.
He noted that despite Matiang’i’s impressive credentials, he cannot win the presidency without support from across the country—and that must begin with a strong backing from his home region.
