President William Ruto has appointed Granton Samboja as the non-executive chairperson of the Board of Directors of the Pyrethrum Processing Company of Kenya.
The appointment was made through Gazette Notice No. 6470, dated May 23, 2025.
“In exercise of the powers conferred by section 6 (1) (a) of the State Corporations Act,” the notice reads, “I, William Samoei Ruto… appoint Granton Samboja.”
Samboja will serve a three-year term.
The appointment takes effect from May 23, 2025.
Samboja served as the second governor of Taita Taveta County from 2017 to 2022.
Prior to his political career, he was involved in the media industry, including founding Milele FM and owning Anguo FM, a Taita language radio station.
The Pyrethrum Processing Company of Kenya, based in Nakuru, is a state-owned enterprise responsible for processing and marketing pyrethrum and its products.
Pyrethrum, a natural insecticide derived from chrysanthemum flowers, was once a major export commodity for Kenya, with the country accounting for over 70 per cent of global production in the 1980s and 1990s.
In recent years, the pyrethrum industry has faced challenges, including reduced production and market share.
The appointment of Samboja is seen as part of efforts to revitalize the sector and restore Kenya's position in the global pyrethrum market
