Security has been beefed up outside the National Treasury, ahead of budget reading for the 2025/26 Financial Year.

On the early morning of Thursday, police officers were seen patrolling the area

Treasury Cabinet Secretary John Mbadi is expected to present the budget at Parliament buildings.

It will be his maiden budget as the second finance minister under the Kenya Kwanza administration.

The National Treasury is set to spend over Sh4.2 trillion in the 2025/26 financial year.

It aims to finance the same through debt, ordinary revenue, grants, fees charged for government services and borrowing, both domestic and external. 

Out of the budget deficit of Sh876 billion, the government intends to borrow more than two-thirds of it locally, at Sh592 billion, and the balance of Sh284 billion externally.

Ministry of Defence is among biggest winners in Sh4.2 trillion budget for 2025/26 financial year.
