The County Government of Homa Bay has announced the temporary closure of the Kanyadhiang’ Bridge in Kendu Bay to allow for urgent repairs on the approach slab.
The repairs are being implemented by the Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA).
The closure, which took effect on June 14, 2025, will address structural concerns on the bridge while assuring road users that the bridge's main framework remains stable and safe for use.
KeNHA teams have already been dispatched to begin immediate repair works.
“We would like to assure all road users that while repair works are being carried out on the approach slab, the bridge’s main structure remains completely safe and stable,” said Homa Bay Governor Gladys Wanga in a statement.
KeNHA teams have responded immediately, and repair works are currently underway to restore normal operations as quickly as possible.
Motorists heading towards Kendu Bay are advised to use a diversion route through Goshen Hotel, Oluch Intake Bridge, and Nyangajo Primary School, before reconnecting to the main road via Obama Road.
Those from the Homa Bay side will take the reverse path.
The county has requested road users to adhere to instructions from traffic police and marshals along the diversion and apologised for any inconvenience caused.
Normal traffic flow is expected to resume after repairs are completed.
