Energy Cabinet Secretary Opiyo Wandayi has assured Kenyans that the government remains stable and firmly in control, dismissing any claims that recent protests in Nairobi’s Central Business District signal instability.

Addressing concerns following the violent demonstrations, Wandayi stated that those imagining the government is on shaky ground are simply daydreaming.

“Those who think that the government is shaken are daydreaming. The government that we serve is extremely stable,” he said.

Wandayi’s comments come in the wake of chaotic scenes witnessed in Nairobi, where demonstrators took to the streets, leading to the destruction of property and disruption of business in the city centre.

He condemned the violence, calling on all peace-loving Kenyans to reject such actions that led to the destruction of property.

“What happened in Nairobi in the name of demonstrations in the CBD must be condemned by all peace-loving Kenyans. We’ve had demos in the past, even here and in other places, but never have we seen such destruction of property,” he said.

While acknowledging the constitutional right to protest, Wandayi warned that freedoms must not be turned into tools for lawlessness.

“We know that Kenyans continue to enjoy freedom of expression and movement. But we should not misuse these freedoms and cause chaos,” he noted.

He further criticised the organisers of the protests, saying they must be held accountable for the consequences.

“Those who organised those demos must be warned that you cannot have your cake and eat it too. Once you take the initiative to organise protests, you must also take responsibility for their outcome,” he said.

Wandayi also lauded the ongoing efforts by President William Ruto and ODM leader Raila Odinga to unify the country, emphasising that unity is the foundation for development.

“We thank President William Ruto and Prime Minister Raila Odinga for taking the first step to unite this country. That unity of purpose is what is required for development,” he added.

The CS called on Kenyans to reject division and instead support efforts aimed at building a peaceful and prosperous nation, insisting that service delivery remains the administration’s top priority.
