National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula on Saturday led hundreds of mourners in paying their last respects to George Wanyonyi Wekesa, a well-known businessman whose legacy drew widespread admiration across Bungoma County.

Wekesa, widely known for his generosity and community support, was laid to rest at his home in Chwele, Kabuchai constituency.

Wetang’ula described Wekesa as “a man of great generosity, whose selfless service to humanity uplifted the lives of many.”

“The mammoth of residents who turned up to bid him farewell is a testament to the greatness of a man who has now gone to be with the Lord,” Wetang’ula said.

He added that Wekesa had “fought a good fight, finished the race, and kept the faith.”

Wekesa, remembered for his charitable spirit and commitment to improving the welfare of those around him, had earned respect far beyond the Kabuchai constituency.

His initiatives reportedly supported education, small businesses, and vulnerable groups in the region.

The ceremony was attended by a host of leaders, including Principal Secretary Juma Mukhwana (Industry), Kabuchai MP Majimbo Kalasinga, and Bungoma County Assembly Speaker Emmanuel Situma, alongside other leaders and residents.

Wekesa's passing marks the end of a chapter in the lives of many residents of Kabuchai, who described him as not just a businessman, but a pillar of the community.
