  • Hearing for the case against Officer Limo Kipkosgei Nahashon to proceed on February 9th and 10th, 2026
  • The officer is charged with the murder of a fellow officer

A Nairobi court has set February 9 and 10, 2026, as the trial dates in the case against Officer Limo Kipkosgei Nahashon, who is facing murder charges relating to an incident that occurred at the Gigiri Police Canteen.

The ruling followed a pre-trial conference where the prosecution confirmed readiness for trial.

"Following the pre-trial conference and after hearing from both the defence and prosecution, I find that this case is ready for trial," stated Justice Kanyi Kimondo.

The court directed that the accused be produced in open court on both hearing dates at 11 a.m.

The hearings will allow virtual testimony, particularly from key witnesses.

The court also directed that additional documents for witness statements of Corporal Kae, a key witness in the incident to be submitted within 21 days.

Kimani Wachira, lawyer for the accused, clarified that Nahashon is a GSU officer based at the GSU headquarters and has never been stationed at Gigiri, contrary to earlier court references.

He further informed the court that the accused has since been interdicted but maintains a fixed place of residence and strong community ties.

Citing the gravity of the charges, the defence requested the court to consider granting bond or bail to allow adequate time for the accused to prepare for his defence.

In response, the prosecution maintained that the accused’s interdiction is standard procedure for officers under investigation and does not alter the circumstances under which previous rulings were made.

The prosecution argued that no new justification had been presented to support release on bond.

Justice Kanyi Kimondo scheduled a ruling on the bail application for September 30, 2025, to be delivered virtually due to the ongoing High Court recess.

The accused will be required to appear online for the session.

Limo Kipkosgei Nahashon was charged earlier this year in connection with the death of a fellow officer at the Gigiri Police Canteen.

The accused opened fire, leading to the death of fellow officer Eric Munga and injuring another officer, CPL Kae.

The incident sparked public concern due to the high-security nature of the location and the fact that both the deceased and the accused were law enforcement officers.

The case has since undergone preliminary hearings, with the court establishing that it is now ready for full trial.
