The National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) is urging motor vehicle owners to collect thousands of unclaimed logbooks that have remained uncollected across its offices.
In a public notice on Friday, the Authority revealed that many vehicle owners have failed to pick up their registration certificates despite the documents being ready and available at the designated collection centres.
“Thousands of logbooks remain uncollected across NTSA offices. We request motor vehicle owners to collect their logbooks from the centres identified during the application process,” NTSA said.
The Authority clarified that the collection process is free of charge.
To retrieve a logbook, owners must present their previous logbook along with their national identification card at the collection point.
Motorists can also verify their vehicle details online through the NTSA Service Portal.
The process involves logging in to the eCitizen platform, selecting the NTSA Service Portal (New), choosing the motor vehicle and clicking to view the details.
Additionally, all information related to a motor vehicle can be accessed through the registration certificate or logbook.
NTSA has reiterated its commitment to road safety and efficient service delivery under its Usalama Barabarani initiative.
How to apply for a duplicate logbook
According to NTSA, if you wish to apply for a duplicate logbook, you are required to have a police abstract, an affidavit and a tape lift report.
In the first step, the applicant is supposed to log in to the e-Citizen account and then select the NTSA Service Portal (New).
The applicant should further select motor vehicle services and click on View
The second step requires the applicant to go to the duplicate logbook and then click on next, after selecting the reason for the duplicate logbook and then attach the required document in one PDF format; this will give you the option to select the logbook counter collection office.
The final steps require you to enter the details of the authorised person to collect, then click search.
The applicant is therefore required to scroll down and tick the declaration box, then click preview, and lastly submit to pay for a duplicate logbook and click complete.
After payment, motorists can collect their logbooks after three working days.
