Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of the Kenya Police Service, Eliud Lagat, on Friday conducted an inspection tour of Makupa Police Station in Mombasa County as part of his ongoing efforts to assess service delivery and operational readiness across police stations nationwide.

In a statement, the National Police Service (NPS) said that Lagat inspected key areas of the station, including the report office, cells, and traffic section, where he identified several areas requiring improvement to enhance service delivery to the public.

He later addressed officers at the station, engaging them on a wide range of issues affecting their day-to-day work.

"Later, the DIG engaged with officers, addressing various concerns, including welfare, mental health, and financial management," the authorities said.

Lagat commended the officers for their dedication and urged them to remain united in the fight against crime.

He further challenged them to uphold integrity, avoid corruption, and embrace accountability in their individual and collective duties.

"Additionally, he urged the officers to steer clear of corruption, be accountable for their individual actions, and serve the public with dignity," read part of the statement.

The DIG reaffirmed the service was commitment to progressively improving working conditions, enhancing welfare, and equipping officers with adequate resources to carry out their duties effectively.

He also underscored that Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja has prioritised transforming police stations and other service areas into centres of excellence where citizens can access justice and security without fear or intimidation.

Officers at Makupa Police Station welcomed the engagement, noting that the direct interaction with top command helped bridge communication gaps and allowed them to share challenges and proposals for reforms.

They expressed optimism that such high-level visits would inspire confidence and morale in their daily operations.

Lagat was accompanied by senior police commanders during the inspection, including Regional Staff Officer for Operations Samuel Kobina (CP), Regional Criminal Investigations Officer Daniel Kandie (CP), Mombasa County Police Commander Peter Kimani (CP), and Regional Traffic Enforcement Officer George Kasimir (SSP).

Other officers present were County Administration Police Commander Maurice Otieno (SSP), Mombasa Central Sub-County Police Commander Nicholas Chelulot (SSP), and County CTEO Selinah Chirchir (SP).
