The government has launched the second phase of the national farmer registration exercise, aiming to bring an additional 500, 000 on board.

This, while updating the existing records in the Kenya Integrated Agricultural Management Information System (Kiamis).

Speaking in Mathioya, Murang’a county, Agriculture Principal Secretary Paul Ronoh said the exercise is central to ensuring efficiency in the distribution of subsidised fertilizer and other farm inputs under the government’s e-voucher system.

“Today we begin Phase Two of the registration, where we are not only capturing new farmers but also validating the data already in Kiamis. This will guarantee transparency and ensure that only genuine farmers benefit from subsidies,” Ronoh said.

He added that the ministry had also commenced coffee farmer data collection to comply with the European Union Deforestation Regulation (EUDR).

The EU requires traceability in agricultural value chains to curb deforestation-linked products from entering its market, a regulation that directly affects Kenya’s coffee exports.

As part of the day’s activities, Ronoh, who was accompanied by Governor Irungu Kang’ata flagged off a team of agripreneurs to support value addition initiatives and distributed subsidised fertilizer to farmers preparing for the short rain season.

The PS emphasised that the combined efforts, registration, compliance with international standards, empowerment of agripreneurs, and access to affordable inputs, are aligned with the government’s broader agricultural transformation agenda.

“The registration is not just about data. It is about building a strong, transparent, and competitive agricultural system that supports farmers, improves productivity, and secures Kenya’s place in global markets,” he said.

Farmers in Murang’a welcomed the initiative, saying accurate data will reduce cases of exclusion from subsidy programs while ensuring that Kenya’s agricultural products remain competitive internationally.

The Kiamis system had registered over 6.6 million farmers by July 2025.

Kiamis registration is a digital farmer registration and data management system used by the government for farmers to access subsidies, such as fertiliser.

With the process having kicked off in Murang’a county, it is now set to be rolled out across all 47 counties and will run till September 8, 2025.

To ease the registration process, Ronoh said they will work with the county governments to deploy additional personnel to carry out the registration.

During the registration process, key details, including land size, crops under cultivation, livestock numbers, as well as fish and fish pod size will be captured.
