The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) has announced it will field candidates in 16 out of the 23 electoral areas set for by-elections on November 27, 2025.
The decision was reached following a meeting of its Central Committee on Thursday.
According to a statement by Secretary General Edwin Sifuna, the party will issue direct nomination tickets in Magarini Constituency and Fafi Ward, while the remaining 21 areas will undergo a competitive candidate selection process.
“The ODM Party remains steadfast in its commitment to internal democracy, transparency, and the consolidation of its position as the party of choice for the people of Kenya,” Sifuna said, reaffirming ODM's approach to democratic participation ahead of the crucial mini-polls.
The party’s National Election Coordination Committee has
been directed to invite applications from aspirants in the relevant
constituencies and wards, as ODM prepares for what could be a litmus test for
its grassroots support in the wake of recent political realignments.
The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) earlier confirmed that by-elections in 23 electoral areas will be held on Thursday, November 27, 2025.
These include seven parliamentary seats, one senatorial seat, and 15 ward representative positions that have remained vacant, in some cases, for over two years due to various legal, administrative, or electoral disputes.
The IEBC has instructed all political parties intending to participate in the by-elections to submit the names of their nominated candidates by September 17.
The official campaign period will begin on October 8 and run through to November 24, with campaigns allowed between 7:00 am and 6:00 pm daily.

The elections will be held in Banissa, Kasipul, Magarini, Malava, Mbeere North and Ugunja constituencies and Baringo county (Senate seat).
The elections will also be conducted in Angata Nanyokie Ward – Samburu County, Chemundu/Kapng’etuny Ward – Nandi County, Chewani Ward – Tana River County, Fafi Ward – Garissa County, Kariobangi North Ward – Nairobi City County, Kisa East Ward – Kakamega County, Metkei Ward – Elgeyo Marakwet County, Mumbuni North Ward – Machakos County, Narok Town Ward – Narok County, Purko Ward – Kajiado County, Tembelio Ward – Uasin Gishu County, Nyansiongo, Nyamaiya, Ekerenyo Wards – Nyamira County, Lake Zone and Nanaam Wards – Turkana County and Kabuchai Ward – Bungoma County.
