Authorities in Nandi South Sub-County intercepted a consignment of illicit brew following a high-speed chase involving a motorcycle rider suspected of trafficking chang’aa.
The incident occurred along the Serem–Kobujoi
road when officers from Koitabut Police Post attempted to flag down a rider
transporting suspicious cargo.
The suspect defied orders to stop and instead sped off towards the
Mugen–Kemeloi–Chepgundi route, abandoning the motorcycle midway before escaping
on foot.
Upon inspecting the motorcycle, police
discovered 50 sachets of chang’aa hidden in a metal box and a carton, eight of
which were already torn.
The confiscated brew and the motorcycle were secured at Koitabut Police Post
as investigations continue to track down the suspect.
Earlier this week, National Police Service
officers from Kahawa West, working alongside the Assistant County Commissioner,
recovered and destroyed 2,500 litres of illicit brew together with brewing
equipment.
“Once again, we reiterate our unwavering
commitment to tackling the menace of illicit brew and drugs across the
country,” police said.
The development comes even as police sustain operations on illicit brews
across various parts of the country.
On Wednesday, August 27, 2025, police
recovered 10,000 litres of illicit brew in a raid in Kangemi.
The operation, led by officers from the Nairobi Region, resulted in the
seizure and destruction of thousands of litres of chang’aa.
The raid also led to the recovery of about 50
kilogrammes of jaggery and several packets of yeast catalyst, believed to be
used in the fermentation process.
“The exhibits have been secured, and efforts are underway to trace and
apprehend the suspects behind the illegal trade,” police said.
