
Permanent Representative of Kenya to the United Nations Environmental Programme (UNEP) Ababu Namwamba has sent a heartfelt gratitude to everyone who stood with him following the passing on of his mother Mama Agatha Maina Namwamba.
Mama Agatha Maina Namwamba passed away on Thursday, August 7, 2025 and the burial took place on Saturday August 30, 2025.
She was described as the matriarch of the Namwamba family and a pillar of strength to her children and the larger community.
Friends and family convened to lay Mama Agatha Maina Namwamba to rest at her home.
“Thank you, our true friends and family. We have felt the warmth of your embrace amidst our cold season of mourning,” he said.
“The Peter and Agatha Namwamba family appreciates all true friends who have stood by our side as we mourn our beloved Mother, Mama Agatha Maina Namwamba.”
He thanked the VOSH Church International, ably led by cherished sister in Christ, Archbishop Winnie Owiti, Philothea Catholic Mission, led by Fr. George and Sr. Florence, Youth for Christ Choir, Karen led by Victor Owit.
Namwamba said they have been a blessing in their lives.
“Our dear sister Milka Omondi from Homa Bay, thank you for performing live Mama's favorite song, "Yesu Tiyo Taling'alinga". You are a gem. You made Mama dance with the angels.”
The former Sports CS thanked former interior CS Fred Matiang’i and Busia governor Paul Nyongesa Otuoma and Susan Nakhumicha, Kenya's Ambassador to UN-HABITAT.
He thanked his colleagues in the Diplomatic Community, adding that they have been immense.
“The whole staff of the Kenya Mission to UNON and UNEP, Ambassador Wamoto of the Kenya Foreign Service Academy, H.E Sultan Hajiyev, Ambassador of Azerbaijan and Chairman of the CPR, H.E Ambassador Eunice Kigenyi, CDA of the Uganda High Commission, and Ambassador-designate Florence Bore, thank you all for condoling with us.”
Namwamba expressed gratitude to the former colleagues at the Ministries of Foreign Affairs and Sports including PS Isamel Madey and Kenya Academy of Sports CEO Doreen Odhiambo.
He thanked Sports Director Jackson Indakwa, Kenya Film Commission CEO Timothy Owase, Kenya Cultural Center CEO Michael Pundo, NYOTA Project Lead Augustine Mayabi, PSs Anne Wangombe, Harry Kimtai and Beatrice Inyangala, and National Security Advisor, Dr. Monica Juma.
“The entire Team Ababu Network, National Office, the Busia Chapter (Team Comrades) and the Budalangi branch, thanks bunches. My Busia Homies, you have been a warm embrace in this cold season of sorrow,” he said in a statement on X.

Namwamba thanked Patrick Quarkoo Media Africa, Pauline Sheghu, Neddy Kutsuru, Tabitha Nashipae, Robert Kemboi, Anthony, Joseph, Mama Aiden, Vivian Moraa, Audrey, Kariuki, Mayaka, Nissi, Kerubo Mayaka, Irene Nyakerario Mayaka, Millie Odhiambo Mabona, MP and Homabay County MP Joyce Atieno Osogo Bensouda.
“We thank you most sincerely. Our phenomenal uncles from Ebuyuku; our grandies from Bukhwanga; our extended Abamadeya family led by Mzee Alois Namwamba, and the wider Abamulembo clan; Our in-laws from Bomet, Vihiga, Murang'a, USA, Rwanda, Ugenya, Kiambu, Bunyala, Mumias, Samia, and beyond; and the whole Abanyala community, please do accept our deepest gratitude.”
He said they spared time to celebrate his Mama's final bow.
He expressed gratitude to Raphael Wanjala Cbs, MSME PS Susan Mangeni, Busia County Speaker Frederick Odilo, KAS Board Chair, Thuo Chege, and the thousands from across the country.
The former CS thanked the National Government Administration Officers and security team led by Busia County Commissioner Chaunga Mwachaunga.
