Husband among three arrested in murder of woman in Kithino, Tharaka Nithi

Three people were arrested in connection with the murder of a woman whose body was found abandoned on a riverbank in Kithino area, Tharaka Nithi County. The husband was among those arrested.

The other two suspects are reportedly workers at the woman’s compound.

The deceased, a 43-year-old, was found lying on the banks of River Kinyuru after her death on September 10, 2025.

Police said Kainda was killed at a home in the area before her body was moved to the riverbank.

Locals discovered the body, which had multiple injuries, and the remains were taken to the mortuary pending an autopsy.

Following the discovery, authorities arrested the woman’s husband and two others believed to have been involved in the incident.

The motive behind the killing has not been disclosed.

In a separate incident in the Kiangodu location, Chuka, Tharaka Nithi, a woman was found murdered on a farm.

Fridah Karendi Mbaka, 35, was discovered half-naked with blood oozing from her mouth.

Police said she is suspected to have been assaulted and strangled.

The motive for the killing was not immediately established, and the body was moved to the mortuary pending an autopsy.

Detective teams were sent to the area on Friday to investigate the murder and identify suspects.

Police said the two incidents are isolated and that they are actively pursuing leads to apprehend those responsible.

Elsewhere in Kariene, Meru County, a man was arrested for murder after assaulting and killing a five-year-old boy.

The child succumbed to his injuries on Wednesday at a hospital where he had been admitted.

Authorities arrested the man connected to the assault and detained him pending arraignment.

Police noted that murder cases have been on the rise, with up to eight incidents reported daily across the country, and investigations are ongoing to address the trend.
