
Detectives in Samburu County have arrested a suspect allegedly involved in a series of violent robberies that have affected residents of Maralal town and its surroundings.
The suspect was apprehended following a coordinated intelligence-led operation.
Police say the suspect, who was armed with an AK-47 rifle, reportedly entered a local shop in Maralal town with an accomplice who remains at large.
Authorities say the duo initially posed as ordinary customers before drawing their firearms and pointing them at the cashier.
During the struggle, the cashier managed to push the weapon aside, and the suspect allegedly fired, causing a minor injury to the left breast.
The victim was quickly taken to Samburu County Referral Hospital, where she received treatment and was later discharged in stable condition, according to officials.
The attackers fled the scene with approximately Sh50,000.
Detectives launched a manhunt that lasted several days.
Acting on intelligence and using surveillance, officers located the suspect at a hideout and arrested him without incident.
Police recovered a jungle hat, a smoke jacket, and a jungle belt during the arrest, which are believed to have been used in the robbery.
The suspect is now in custody and is being processed as police prepare to present him in court on charges of robbery with violence.
Detectives have intensified efforts to apprehend the fugitive accomplice, assuring the public that all necessary measures are being taken to bring the individual to justice.
