
Police officers have arrested several suspects in separate incidents of vandalism and theft involving public infrastructure and scrap metal.
Officers from Lango Baya Police Station reported arresting a man at the Old Gabion of Coast Water Works Development Agency (CWWDA) in Kilifi on Tuesday, September 16.
According to police, the man was found destroying a steel cover with a sledgehammer.
Officers recovered the tool and parts of the damaged cover, which were taken as exhibits.
The suspect was taken to Lango Baya Police Station for questioning.
Police said he will be arraigned in court in Malindi on Thursday, September 18, to face charges under the Scrap Metal Act and the Penal Code.
In a separate incident in Majeng, Kilifi County, police on Wednesday, September 17, arrested three people in connection with the alleged theft of assorted spanners, workshop tools, and a roll of barbed wire.
Police said the arrests followed a search conducted after receiving a report.
One suspect led officers to a scrap metal shop, where the alleged stolen materials were recovered.
The three suspects are being held at Mtwapa Police Station and are expected to be arraigned in court.
