Speaking exclusively to Kenyan journalist and digital creator Kalondu Musyimi moments after landing at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA), the American star said he was thrilled to finally bring his live show to East Africa.

Despite a long flight from Los Angeles, Kenny G appeared upbeat and eager to meet his Kenyan audience.'

“We are very excited to be here. We have one night here in Nairobi, one night in Uganda. We are very excited to be able to play there. First time doing concerts here,” he said.

Kenny G said the Nairobi show would allow fans to experience his music in a way recordings cannot capture.

“They may have heard my music, but now they get to see us do it,” he said.

Asked about his trademark instrument, the Grammy Award-winning saxophonist revealed he had brought along the same saxophones he has played for more than 50 years.

“If my melodies help bring up some good memories, then that’s wonderful,” he added.

Sharing details of what to expect at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC) on September 27, the musician promised an evening that will go far beyond saxophone solos.

“First, I’ll have a very nice suit on — hair will look better,” he joked.

“I also have a great band, musicians… so the night is not just saxophone and melodies, it’s exciting musicians. I’m very proud of all my musicians. So it will be an amazing saxophone solo, piano solo, guitar, drum solo — so it’s a lot to see.”

Kenny G also revealed he is making an effort to connect with his Kenyan audience by learning a few words of Swahili.

“That will be my big job,” he said.

After Nairobi, the saxophonist will head to Uganda for his first-ever performance there at Mestil Gardens in Kampala on Sunday night.

“We promise we are gonna give you the best show you have ever seen. We have beautiful melodies for you, exciting musicians. It will be a wonderful show,” he assured his Ugandan fans.
