Arrest.

Police officers from Kabete police station in Dagoretti sub-county have successfully conducted a targeted operation along Naivasha road that led to the arrest of seven suspects involved in various criminal activities, including phone snatching.

The operation was launched following actionable intelligence that pointed to the presence of criminal elements terrorising commuters along the busy Naivasha Road.

Acting swiftly on this information, officers intercepted two suspected phone snatchers riding a motorcycle.

The suspects were apprehended along with three accomplices believed to be handling stolen goods obtained from such crimes.

In addition to the arrests related to phone snatching, the police detained one suspect for possession of bhang, a prohibited substance.

Another suspect was also apprehended for riding a motorcycle without valid insurance, a traffic offence that could potentially endanger lives.

The seven suspects are currently in custody at Kabete Police Station as they await processing and subsequent arraignment in court.

During the operation, the police recovered the motorcycle allegedly used in the criminal activities as well as other exhibits, all of which have been secured and will be presented as evidence during legal proceedings.

Police have, in recent days, heightened operations to crack down on individuals terrorising Kenyans.

On May 24, 2025, six suspects were arrested and assorted stolen mobile phones recovered from them in an operation in Nairobi.

Police said they also recovered Sh614,000 from the suspects, which they believe are proceeds of the crime.

The recovered mobile phones were stolen from separate parts of the city and were valued at Sh3million, Nairobi Regional Police Commander George Sedah said.

He added they are looking for more suspects in connection with the crime.

“They usually configure some of the mobile phones and sell them elsewhere. We advise against buying stolen devices,” he said.

Most of the thieves behind the trend operate on motorcycles, he said. Police advised those whose gadgets are stolen to always report the cases.

Police say some of the stolen gadgets are usually tampered with and resold to unsuspecting buyers. Others are sold to neighbouring countries for use.

Police have in the past arrested and charged some suspects with serious offences like robbery with violence and murder in such operations.

This was after it emerged that the gadgets were violently robbed from the owners, some of which led to deaths or serious injuries.

The operation is ongoing.

"The officers involved in the operation for their vigilance and quick response."

The police emphasised that public cooperation is crucial in curbing crime and ensuring safer communities for all.
