The crowd in Gathoge gathered to support Mama Gift

Even before the story of Kaluma Boy fades from public attention, another wave of compassion has swept across the country.

On Sunday, October 26, 2025, thousands of young Kenyans flocked to Embu County in a strong show of solidarity to support Mama Gift, a single mother from Gathoge whose strength and love for her ailing son, Baby Gift — who is battling cerebral palsy, chronic asthma, and cardiovascular complications — have touched hearts across the nation.

Crowds began arriving at Njukiri Showground early in the morning. By midday, the area had transformed into a sea of people waving flags, singing songs of hope, and holding banners with messages of encouragement for Mama Gift.

Youths, content creators, and families from various parts of Kenya came together, turning what had begun as a social media appeal into a national act of kindness.

Mama Gift’s story has become a symbol of endurance and a mother’s unwavering devotion.

Her son, Baby Gift, has been struggling with health complications, and despite her financial and emotional challenges, she has continued to care for him with admirable determination.

Her situation inspired Kenyans—mostly Gen Z and young professionals—to take to TikTok, X, and Instagram to raise awareness and organize the Embu event.

Along the Embu–Njukiri road, convoys of vehicles and motorbikes made their way to the venue, with participants chanting, singing, and blowing vuvuzelas.

“This is not about politics or fame. We came here to stand with a mother who represents courage and love. Mama Gift has reminded us what humanity truly means,” one attendee said.

Participants brought food, household items, and medical supplies, while others donated money toward Baby Gift’s medical care.

Musicians and performers entertained the crowd, and content creators streamed the event live, drawing even more supporters online.

The Embu gathering represented a new form of youth-driven activism in Kenya—one centered on empathy and community rather than politics.

Many attendees said the initiative reflects a rising sense of responsibility among young people.

“As young people, we are showing that we can lead with empathy,” said a content creator who helped organize the event.

“We are not just here for charity; we are here to prove that when we come together, we can change lives.”

As evening approached, chants of “We love you, Mama Gift” echoed through the showground. Tears flowed as volunteers loaded boxes of donations onto trucks headed for her home.

For many, the day was more than a fundraiser—it was a demonstration of Kenya’s enduring unity.
