The Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) has launched a rescue and translocation operation for 15 Masai giraffes and about 150 common zebras from Manera Farm in Naivasha.

In a statement, KWS said the animals are being moved to Nairobi National Park and the Naivasha Wildlife Sanctuary after losing their natural habitat.

The displacement was caused by land-use changes and the swelling of Lake Naivasha, which reduced access to food and water.

“The animals have lost their natural habitat and access to sufficient food and water,” KWS said.

KWS noted that its veterinary and capture teams are working to ensure the animals are moved safely to their new locations.

“They are being safely moved to Nairobi National Park and Naivasha Wildlife Sanctuary, where they can thrive and continue to contribute to Kenya’s rich biodiversity,” KWS said.

The agency reaffirmed its dedication to wildlife protection and habitat conservation.

“KWS remains committed to safeguarding Kenya’s wildlife and securing healthy habitats for their survival,” the statement added.
