Interior Principal Secretary Dr Raymond Omollo has urged political leaders and residents to conduct peaceful campaigns and elections, warning that the government will not tolerate acts of violence or lawlessness.

Speaking during a fund drive for women in Ugunja constituency, Siaya County, PS Omollo emphasised the importance of maintaining calm ahead of the upcoming political season.

He pointed to recent chaos witnessed in Kasipul constituency in Homa Bay as a reminder of the need for restraint and responsible leadership.

“Let us have peaceful campaigns and elections. You saw what happened in Kasipul that should not happen again. Let us look for votes in peace.”

The PS commended residents of Ugunja for embracing issue-based politics focused on development rather than confrontation. He called on politicians across the country to emulate that approach and prioritise projects that improve people’s lives.

“I am happy with what I’ve seen in Ugunja. Let’s do politics of development, not destruction,” PS Omollo said.

“We must work closely with our security officers to avoid more loss of life and injuries.” He further cautioned individuals who may be planning to cause disruptions during campaigns, noting that security agencies have been adequately briefed and will take swift action against offenders.

“There is no point in leading people when they are maimed or killed. For anyone who thinks they will get away with it,  our security agencies are well prepared,” he warned.

PS Omollo reaffirmed the government’s commitment to ensuring that peace and stability prevail before, during, and after the elections, urging residents to reject divisive politics and stand united for progress.

His remarks come following the death of two people in Kasipul within the Constituency. The confrontation occurred at the Opondo area in Central Kasipul Ward when supporters of independent candidate Phillip Aroko and ODM’s Boyd Were engaged in violent skirmishes.

The Kasipul parliamentary seat fell vacant following the murder of late MP Charles Ong’ondo Were, who was shot in Nairobi in April 2025 by unknown individuals.

The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) has strongly condemned the act ahead of the by-election scheduled for November 27. In a press statement released on Thursday, the party expressed deep concern over reports that a peaceful voter engagement by its candidate, Hon. Boyd Were, was violently disrupted.
