Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi has issued a sharp
political warning to Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya, signalling a fierce
contest ahead of the 2027 General Election.
Speaking on Saturday, Mudavadi dismissed claims that Kenya
Kwanza leaders were disengaged from politics, insisting they were fully
prepared to challenge the governor’s rising influence in the region.
He said the coalition would field a formidable candidate
capable of unseating Natembeya in the next polls.
“Watu wasifikiri kwamba sisi si wanasiasa na nataka
niwaambie hata yule anatembea hapa anaitwa Natembeya nataka nimwambie 2027
tutasimamisha mtu hatari hapo Trans Nzoia ambaye ataonesha Natembeya mlango
aende nyumbani,” Mudavadi said.
This loosely translates to, “People should not think that we
are not politicians, and I want to tell you—even that one walking around here
called Natembeya—I want to tell him that in 2027 we will field a very strong
candidate in Trans Nzoia who will show him the door and send him home.”
The Prime CS cautioned Natembeya against what he termed
provocative political conduct, warning him to refrain from attacking leaders in
the national government.
“If you live in a house made of glass, do not throw stones,”
he said, suggesting that the governor’s actions could expose him to political
vulnerability.
Mudavadi claimed the first-term governor is displaying early
signs of arrogance and overconfidence barely a year into office.
He said Natembeya’s political posture suggested he believed
he had already achieved national prominence.
“He has only served his first term and already thinks he is
the most famous person in the world,” Mudavadi said.
“My friend, you will not survive in Trans Nzoia. You will be
roaming around in tears because we will bring a candidate who will remove you.”
The remarks come amid escalating tensions between the
governor and Kenya Kwanza leaders, following Natembeya’s recent criticism of
national government officials and his vocal stance on various governance
issues.
His public comments have increasingly placed him at the
centre of political confrontation with allies of President William Ruto.
Mudavadi’s declaration signals the administration’s intent
to counter Natembeya’s influence in the Rift Valley–Western border county,
which has become a significant battleground ahead of the next election cycle.
“We are ready, and we are coming for you,” he concluded,
underscoring Kenya Kwanza’s determination to reclaim political ground in Trans
Nzoia.
The rivalry between Mudavadi and Natembeya has been fueled
by the Malava Constituency by-election scheduled for November 27, 2025.
The two leaders each have a candidate from their respective
parties and have camped in the constituency campaigning for their respective
candidates.
