President William Ruto sparked laughter at State House, Nairobi, after playfully chiding a Gor Mahia official who delivered a jersey that was larger than he had requested.

Speaking after receiving the Kenyan Premier League trophy from Gor Mahia, Ruto recounted how he had asked for a club jersey but was disappointed to find that the one presented to him was an extra-large size.

"Lakini kuna jamaa mmoja ameniangusha. Nilikuwa nimemwambia aniletee jersey ya Gor Mahia akaniletea XXL. Sasa ilikuwa inakaa kama gunia nikasema hapana (There is one guy who has failed me. I had requested him to bring me a Gor Mahia jersey, and he brought XXL. It was looking like a sack, so I said no)," the President joked, drawing laughter from those present.

Ruto said the oversized jersey did not fit his preference and instructed the club official to look for a smaller size.

"So boss utatafuta ingine, tafuta large, umeleta extra large, nitumie mbili ama tatu, different colours (You will have to look for another one for me. Look for large, you brought extra large, different colours)," he said.

The light-hearted moment added humour to an otherwise celebratory occasion as Gor Mahia players, coaches and club officials presented the league trophy to the Head of State at State House.

The President congratulated the club for its successful season, praising the players and technical bench for their commitment and hard work in securing the title.

The exchange quickly became one of the standout moments of the event, with those in attendance laughing at the President's candid remarks about the ill-fitting jersey.

Gor Mahia, Kenya's most successful football club, presented the trophy as part of celebrations following another successful Premier League campaign.

Ruto further called on sponsors to increase investment in local sports teams, saying Kenya's rich sporting talent deserves greater backing to thrive and compete at the highest levels.

The President said the country's achievements in football, athletics, cricket and other disciplines are a source of national pride.

"I want to urge sponsors to support other teams because the talent of our young people is something that we are very proud of as a nation, whether it is athletics, football, cricket and all other sports, it is something that we celebrate as a nation. And that is why when I saw you lift the cup again, I said I must meet you."
