Post-partum haemorrhage remains the primary direct cause, accounting for nearly 40% of fatalities in 2020/2021.
Eclampsia and antepartum hemorrhage also contribute significantly.
The report, released in May 2025, tracks trends from 2020 to 2022.
While some causes, like ruptured uterus saw a slight decrease, others like sepsis showed an increase in 2021/2022 compared to the previous year.
Abortion continues to be a factor, with a slight rise in the later period.
