Prevalence of STIs at county level: Where most cases were reported

Data from 2023 on the self-reported prevalence of sexually transmitted infections (STIs) across several counties reveals concerning regional variations and disparities between genders.

The highest reporting rates among women (aged 15–49 years) were concentrated in two counties: Murang'a recorded the highest percentage at 40%, followed by Mandera at 36%.

Other counties with significant percentages for women include Elgeyo Marakwet, Bungoma, Kirinyaga, and Homa Bay.

Across the entire population surveyed, percentages represent the share of women and men (also aged 15–49 years) who self-reported having STIs or symptoms of STIs in 2023.

The data also indicates that, on a national average, both women and men in this age bracket reported a 22% prevalence.

Specific county percentages for the overall population include Elgeyo Marakwet (22% ), Kirinyaga (22% ), Bungoma (18% ), Narok (16% ), Homa Bay (13% ), and Migori (13% ).

These figures emphasise the need for targeted public health campaigns and improved access to sexual and reproductive health services tailored to the specific needs of each region.
