President William Ruto has declared seven days of national mourning following the death of former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, who passed away in India while receiving medical treatment.

During the mourning period, national flags will fly at half-mast in Kenya and all missions abroad.

The President announced that Raila will be accorded a state funeral with full honours, and a funeral committee co-chaired by Deputy President Kithure Kindiki and Siaya Senator Oburu Oginga has been formed.

Ruto hailed Raila as a giant of democracy and freedom fighter.

All presidential engagements have been postponed, and India will assist in repatriating his remains, with a delegation led by Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi already in India.
