
Gospel singer Betty Bayo, born Beatrice Mbugua in Banana, Kiambu County, passed away on November 10, 2025, at Kenyatta National Hospital after battling complications from leukaemia.
The youngest of eight siblings and mother of two, Bayo rose from humble beginnings as a house help to become a celebrated gospel artist.
She gained widespread recognition with her breakout hit, 11th Hour, and was known for singing primarily in Gikuyu and Swahili.
Formerly married to Pastor Victor Kanyari, Betty Bayo leaves behind a legacy of inspiring music that touched many hearts and continues to influence the Kenyan gospel scene.
