A recent survey sheds light on the most common forms of gender disparities experienced in workplaces across selected African countries.

According to the Gender Equality Report 2026 by GeoPoll, nearly half of respondents (46%) said women are often in junior roles while men occupy senior positions, highlighting a persistent leadership gap.

Additionally, 30% reported that men are promoted more frequently, while 28% said men receive higher pay for similar roles.

Only 18% noted women being promoted more often. A further 14% cited other forms of workplace differences.

Conducted in Kenya, Nigeria, South Africa and Egypt, the findings point to ongoing structural inequalities affecting career growth and pay equity.
