The Kenya Railways Corporation has dismissed allegations that it illegally acquired a parcel of land at Valley Road.
The corporation in a statement on Saturday dismissed claims by Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka and Leader of People's Liberation Party Martha Karua who had alleged land grabbing, illegal evictions and purported sale of the parcel of land on Valley Road.
Kenya Railways Managing Director Phillip Mainga said the matter is currently before the courts and urged any aggrieved parties to allow the court process to take its due course in addressing the dispute.
"We wish to clarify the allegations issued during the above-mentioned Press Statement are misleading. The land in question is the property of Kenya Railways and we are not privy to the sale transaction," Mainga said in a statement.
This was after a meeting between Kalonzo, Karua and the Association of Kenya Railways Retirees (AKERARE) on Friday.
During the meeting, Kalonzo alleged that the aging retirees were sent home without their pension and were chased out of their property.
"Kenya Railways, under a Cabinet memo vested in their retirement scheme, this is their subject property. It has come to their shocking attention that a person high up in government who has a knack for grabbing public land is at it again," Kalonzo alleged.
"They have chased the poor pensioners out of their property on Valley Road, and the said property is now under police protection as a private developer demolishes the houses of the poor retirees,” he added.
Karua, on her part, alleged that the land had already been sold to a Kenyan of high influence saying they have already been paid millions.
"Although the name of the title did change, the beneficial owners are the retirees. It is not available to the government or to any land grabber because it has owners who are retirees," Karua alleged.
"Following the steps that should be taken in any legal sale, it has already been sold, and they were paid Sh320 million out of Sh400 million, and only Sh80 million is pending, and I believe it was sold to a Kenyan."
Kalonzo demanded that the property and many others that have been grabbed and illegally occupied be handed back to their rightful owners and restore their dignity.
